BangaloreITPro – BarCamp

I was attended the BangaloreITPro’s BarCamp yesterday at the Microsoft’s campus in EGL, Bangalore. It was a wonderful event. The event was started with the announcement that BangaloreITPro User Group has own the IMPACT 2010 Best Tier-1 UG Award for this year. This is the third time in a row that BangaloreITPro User Group (twitter) has own this prestigious award. Congratulation to all UG Leads of BangaloreITPro; Kaliyan (twitter), Ravikanth(blog|twitter) and Vijay (blog|twitter). It feels great to be part of this user group.

The first session was on Public Cloud Offering in the Market by Mr. Aresh Sarkari. His session was followed by Ravikanth’s session on PowerShell for AD Administration. The session was mostly demo-based and was very informative. Post-lunch, we had a session on Microsoft Learning & Certifications, where Mr. Anshuman Das talked about the necessary of certifications and the certification exams one needs to take to achieve the MCITP Server Administrator/Enterprise Administrator on the Windows Server 2008 track. Vijay talked about MVP program from Microsoft and gave a quick info on how someone will receive that status. Note: MVP is a status; not a certification. You can read more about it in this post from Vijay.

The last session was a Chalk Talk. There were four different tracks; Desktop Deployment, Virtualization, Certifications & SQL Server Administrations. I was attended the SQL Server Administrations track; Technology Evangelist Vinod Kumar (blog|twitter) was chairing this talk. The discussion was regarding Security, Performance Tuning, SSIS, DTS, Replication, and Memory Management in SQL Server. He also mentioned some reference materials related to all these areas. I think this was the longest Chalk Talk of this event. Need to re-write all the points I had noted down during the talk. We also discussed about TechED, the yearly Microsoft’s event. I had some doubt about that event, and got myself clarified.

Overall, it was a wonderful experience. Looking forward to the next event, which is going to be a two-day event, with both Developer & ITPro Tracks. The probable dates are 22nd & 23rd of January, 2011. I will update once I get a confirmation from the UG Leads. In case you have missed this event, I advice you to get yourself registered at BangaloreITProUser Group, you will definitely get an email once the next event will be scheduled. I wish all of you a merry christmas and a very Happy & Prosperous New Year 2011. See you all in the next event in the new year.
